Your collection is a record of what you own. It is separate from the marketplace: nothing in it is for sale unless you list it.
Where the numbers come from
An estimate is the median of recent completed sales on this marketplace for comparable pieces. We look for the closest match first โ same sub-category, brand and condition โ and widen only if there is not enough data.
Two deliberate choices are worth knowing:
- We use what things sold for, never what sellers were asking.
- We use the median rather than the average, so one unusually high sale does not drag the whole estimate upwards.
Why does my piece show no estimate?
A piece needs at least three comparable sales in the last six months before it gets a number. Below that we show nothing rather than a figure derived from one or two sales.
This is common in a quiet corner of the market, and common on a young marketplace generally. It is not an error.
Treat it as a guide
An estimate is a reading of recent activity here, not an appraisal. For insurance or a sale of any real size, get a proper valuation.
