Spotting counterfeits and reproductions

Updated 30 Sep 2026 ยท 32 views

Reproductions have become good enough that photographs alone are often not decisive. A few habits help.

Before you buy

  • Ask for more photos. A seller with the real thing will not mind photographing the label, the back, the seams or the connector.
  • Check the seller. How long have they been here, and what does their feedback say?
  • Be wary of a bargain. A price far below what comparable items sell for is the most reliable warning sign there is.
  • Watch for stock photos. Photographs of the actual item, in someone's actual home, are what you want to see.

If something is wrong

Use the Report control on the listing and choose Counterfeit or replica. Tell us what specifically looks wrong โ€” the detail is what lets a moderator act quickly.

Reports are reviewed by a person. You will not be told the outcome for someone else's account, but the report is never ignored.
